Partner in Mind

Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.” (William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream)

One of the qualities I seek most in terms of self-improvement is intelligence. It is thus natural that I deem intelligence as, among a few others, a top priority in the quest for a life partner. In terms of the opposite sex, I find men who read, write and, with their minds, are able to present to me the world, as unbearably attractive.

At this stage, however, I’ve come to the conclusion that smart men are aplenty. Heck, they are abundant. The issue thus lies not in intelligence.

It is in finding a person who is not only knowledgeable but also shares your beliefs, values, and principles. Who believes in what you believe in, who values what you value, and as a consequence, does not see your principles as something that should only be tolerated but not to live by.

This does not mean that differences should be resisted. Instead, it merely means to look beyond shallow, superficial differences in order to discover their core, their soul, their minds.

As human beings, we all pick our own battles. We all have our own dreams.
And the people who fight the same battles and believe in the same dreams are nothing but a few and far between.
